Sam Thaiday will be given time to prove his fitness amid fears a calf strain could see him miss Origin
BRONCOS enforcer Sam Thaiday will be given time to prove his fitness amid fears his calf strain could pitch him into the State of Origin opener without an NRL game in almost seven weeks.
Thaiday missed Friday’s Queensland derby against the Titans at Suncorp Stadium, meaning the Test second rower’s last NRL game was the Round 6 loss to the Titans on April 11.
Queensland selector Des Morris said Thaiday’s proven ability over 20 games in the Origin arena had earned him the right to be given every chance to play in the series opener at Suncorp Stadium despite his time out of action.
